Man on Man Results - Temple Hill, 07/23/2005

For those who decided to stay home in the shade missed some fine racing. We only had five pilots for both classes so it becomes a No-go for season points as we need six I think, F3F is 6 min anyway.

We had some cloud cover for most of the day so even though it was hot and muggy it was not too bad considering.

We used the Club Matrix but chose to keep the switching of the caller to a min as we bounced around a bit and this worked quite well. Still one on one and every one racing against all other pilots twice. We just used 2W radios with one caller for both planes, worked better than hauling up the lights, battery and a huge stout tripod.

We had to switch to 4 pilots in Foam when Alan took out a evelon he couldn’t fix on the slope, but he hung around and did well in the Crunchy’s with a trusty Vindy.

I was surprised my Gulp G48 hung in there but not quite with the 60’s. She did all right for being empty with no time to add any ballast so I was stuck. She would gain in Sink and lose out in better lift.

Most of all the races were close with lots of lead changes, usually close enough with equal speed, he who got a decent start and or made fewer mistakes usually won out, as it should be. A cut was dealt the Kiss of Death.

We had one lost but found nose cone, and no serious damage. Poor Wily Bill was having the “I don’t have it” problems. Some weirdness with the RX is believed to be the culprit. It would be just fine, then do it all over again. Range check after wiggling a few wires got to be only a few paces with the antenna down. But it also had flown quite far away. Intermittent problems like this are hard to pin point. This cost Bill dearly with a DNF and two DNS’s

Bottom line, everyone got in a bunch of good racing and we all had fun with all planes in tact on the way out.
